I was lucky enough to perform with Florence Hartigan and Shane Fee a couple weeks ago at this little vintage shop in Silverlake. The vibe in the room was amazing because everyone there was interested in listening to the music. It felt cozy like a house concert and the owners are awesome people. Here are a couple clips from the show:
Also, I'm playing Hotel Cafe this Sunday 11/14 at 11:30p. Click HERE to check out the details on my facebook page. Hope to see your lovely faces in a few days.
So today I had a pretty rad rehearsal with some friends for the show this Friday. We're working up a song called "weather with you" by the talented Crowded House. It's funny, my dad has been listening to Neil Finn for years and sort of pushing him on me like a dealer pushes that stash of weed. BUT...it never stuck. Yet suddenly I'm singing a Neil Finn cover. Maybe it's one of those slow sneaky little buggers of a song that get their way into your brain and dig their teeth in. Or maybe my dad actually has good taste in music. I mean I'm no longer an adolescent unwilling to give props to my parents when it's deserved. So there you go dad, cheeers :)
Here is one part of my performance in "by the fireside" at Larchmont Bungalow. LA folks will appreciate the head nod to a local certified green cafe, and as the winter is drawing nigh hopefully everyone can appreciate some music sung fireside. Here's to a cozy winter.
I am playing a show this Friday at Enid and Edgars in Silverlake 9pm $5 Hope to see your lovely faces there.

I got the chance to see some amazing music today at the CherryTree Records kick-off party for the All Hearts Tour at El Adobe in Hollywood. Robyn and Kelis both performed stripped down versions of their songs. Kelis performed the song "4th of July" and Robyn performed 2 songs with her keyboard player Marcus: "Hang with Me" and "Dancing on my Own." I got a couple pictures with them both, and they were gracious in signing and taking pictures with the 25 or so people that waited in line. The acoustic version of "dancing on my own" took my breath away. You can watch videos to both songs from that performance:
Later that night at the The Music Box, they both gave amazing performances for the first night of the "All Hearts" tour. Kelis performed Acapella of course, did a little mashup of Madonna's Holiday and her famous Milkshake song, and a few other songs form her latest album. Robyn perfomed most of Body Talk Pt.1, but threw in Cobrastyle from the self-titled album, and gave us a taste of her 90's hit "show me love' that really got her career in the states goin. The crowd was diggin' on all of it. She threw those signature dance moves in only stopping to take a break and stretch it out during her song "don't fucking tell me what to do." It was a non-stop dance party with 2 live drummers bookending the stage and 2 dudes playing synths behind her. There was enough aqua and purple lights to make me feel like I was in Urban Outfitters, but it was fitting for the vibe.
This was an amazing night of dance music at the Music Box to kick off the tour. Here are the dates for the "All Hearts" tour with Robyn and Kelis:
07-23 Los Angeles, CA – The Music Box 07-24 San Francisco, CA – Mezzanine 07-27 Boston, MA – House of Blues 08-02 Washington, DC – 9:30 Club 08-03 Philadelphia, PA – Trocadero 08-05 New York, NY – Webster Hall
I'm talking chicken here. After a 3 month hiatus from all things animal, I've decided to bring back chicken into my diet. it's sorta gross to handle meat again after not having it anywhere close to my plate for so long, but too much soy is evidently not a good idea either. Too much soy= too much estrogen. And let's face it, moobs are not something i'd like to be flaunting around my new found home of beach city USA. But if you think this means i'm heading to the KFC for their latest, vulgarity of a 'entree' with the fried chicken squares (how did they get it into that shape?) as bread, sandwiching bacon and some sort of creamy concoction, you have hit the whammy. there is no big money for you. stop.
So first off, thank you to everyone that made it out to the show at The Viper Room on Tuesday night. There was a really GREAT turnout, and knowing that I've only been living here for 6 months makes the success of the show really hit home. From the feedback i've gotten people had an awesome time! I presume some bike horns, kazoos, a tambourine, and a Florence Hartigan tipped the scale in the right direction. Here's a couple pictures sent to me from Joey for those voyeuristic tendencies of yours.
NEWSNEWSNEWSNEWSNEWSNEWS:
The show at Bar Lubitsch in WEHO on Tuesday March 16th has been reduced from 10 bucks to 5 bucks! If you're interested in RSVP-ing for the show, or just checking out the information CLICK HERE. While your there, feel free to add yourself to my page for updates on shows and events. Also, I have a situation in the works for a show at The House of Blues sometime in April. I'll keep you abreast (-)(-) of the situation. As of today you can find me on the website of the open artist movement where they wrote a nice feature on their webpage about my music. They have formed a collective of great musicians focused on staying true to their artistic voice while engaging audiences in a visceral way. Please visit the sight and sign up for the newsletter. There are great ways to become involved in the charity work they do, as well as keep up to date on the artists they represent.
